June was very busy but a great start to summer. The biggest thing was vacation! We went to St. Simon's Island, GA for a week. We took Avery and Tucker and stayed at a townhouse right by the ocean. I wasn't sure what to expect taking an 8 month old to the beach, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much she enjoyed vacation and how much fun we had with her! It was over a 100 degrees most days, so we stayed in the water as much as possible. The pool was a few steps from our back door and we spent many hours floating around in it. Avery loves her float and her toys that she chews on.
One day we did bare the heat and went exploring a little. We went up to the top of the lighthouse that sits by the pier. It was 129 steps to the top and Josh carried Avery in the Bjorn. I bet his legs were burning by the time we got to the top. The view was amazing and there was a nice breeze to greet us! Afterwards, we tried to play putt putt, but we only made it through 12 holes before the heat was too much for Avery to handle. So we packed it up and went home to the pool to cool off! I'm really missing my daily nap now that I am back at work. Naps are one of the greatest things about vacation. No house to clean, bills to pay, laundry to do during Avery's nap, so I actually get to take one too!
We also tried a couple of different local restaurants that were very yummy. My favorite being Blackwater Grill. It was fancy food in a casual atmosphere. We went for our anniversary dinner and it was the best dinner of the whole trip for me. Josh might argue the pizza was the best for him :) For dessert, our favorite place was moo cow's. It was a homemade ice cream shop. We went there more than we should have, but we can't resist ice cream! I had normal flavors like banana pudding and chocolate chip, etc.. Josh, on the other hand, had interesting flavors like candied bacon and spicy dark chocolate.
All in all it was a great week of relaxing family time! I can't wait to start planning the next one!
While we were gone, Avery also turned 8 months old. Crazy! She is getting to be more fun everyday. It was amazing to see how much she changed in just a week while we were on vacation. She is quite the chatter box now. She has always been pretty vocal, but now she has added the b sound, e sound and g sound to her string of syllables. She has been saying a lot of gigigi, didi, and last week started saying dada for the first time. She is waving bye-bye, playing peek a boo, sitting in the big girl bath tub, rocking on her hands and knees when she isn't scooting backwards and getting quite the head of hair. She has also discovered her ears, thanks to her hair being so long it hangs over and tickles them. She has also started trying to suck her thumb when I'm not looking. I am trying to break this habit as quickly as possible!
I can't wait to see how she has grown when we go for her 9 month appointment. I weighed her at home and she is roughly 17 pounds 8 ounces (up 1.5 pounds since 6 months). We are still in size 3 diapers and wearing 6-9 month clothes. I love being her mommy so much and can't believe I have been blessed with such an amazing little girl!
I have also jumped into the world of couponing. I have the notebook organized and have been studying the ads and flyers to get the best deals. My first week was pretty successful. I spent $127 for $255 worth of groceries/toiletries. It is very exciting to go watch the total drop :) I am not sure how crazy i will be with them every week, but my goal is to save at least our grocery budget every month. Anybody else into couponing and want to get together to cut them all out let me know! I'll post every month or so how much I'm saving.
Hope everyone is having a great summer! Here are a few highlights from summer so far:
